Takoma Park, MD- Momentum from the second half of recent loss to Chestnut Hill last Wednesday propels Lady Shock to a home victory over Bluefield State College with a final score of 68-46.
Despite an early 12-point lead at halftime, BSC started the second half with a 12-0 run to tie the game at 30-30, with Chloe Layne shooting 75% from behind the arc (3-4). WAU weathered the storm and went on a 15-0 run themselves, ending the third quarter 45-30.
The Lady Shock jumped on BSC early with defensive pressure that carried them through the final moments. Forcing 35 turnovers overall from the Big Blues, WAU's defense created offense. Defensive effort was shared with Demyra Selby (SO/Salisbury, MD) leading with 6 steals, and Courtney Jenkins (JR/Philadelphia, PA) and Emily Piazza (SR/Newport News, VA) each chipping in 5 for the night.
WAU had three players reach double figures. Emily Piazza led the way with 15 points and 6 assists. Demyra Selby finished with 12 points, shooting 80% from the free throw line (4-5), and Chynna Smith (FR/Silver Spring, MD) added 12 points shooting 57% from 3-point territory (4-7).
