Philippi, WV- Shock fall short in back-and-forth battle with ABU with a final score of 89-78.
The Shock led by as much as 7 in the first half. The teams exchanged baskets throughout most of the first half, but the Battlers went on a 13-4 run at the tail end of the first half, finishing with a buzzer-beater 3 point basket to bring the score to 40-38 and gaining momentum. The Battlers outshot the Shock from the free throw line, shooting 87.5% (21-24), while WAU shot 73.7% (14-19).
The Battlers had 5 players reach double figures, 3 of which finished with double doubles but the difference of the night came from the bench play. ABU had 29 points off the bench while the Shock only had 3. Eric Lindsey (SR/Churchton, MD) remained an offensive force, leading the way with 24 points shooting 55.6% from the field (10-18). Tyrus Fleetwood (SR/Hagerstown, MD) had a solid overall performance, finishing with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 0 turnovers. Brian Bridgeforth (SR/Washington, DC) finished with yet another double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds.
This game concludes the regular season play for the Shock. WAU finished in 2nd place in the Association of Independent Institutions conference and will continue play in the conference tournament held in Point Lookout, Missouri February 24-26.
