Washington Adventist’s Erica Calhoun Receives 2023-24 CAC SID of the Year Award
TAKOMA PARK, MD - Washington Adventist University's Sports Information Director Erica Calhoun has been named the 2023-2024 CAC SID of the Year, announced by the Continental Athletic Conference on July 9, 2024. This award recognizes her outstanding work supporting the Shock's athletic teams and student-athletes during the 2023-24 athletic year. It marks her as the first SID to receive this honor in WAU history. She is now eligible to receive NAIA honors.
"I am thrilled to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Erica Calhoun on being named Sports Information Director of the Year for the Continental Athletic Conference," said WAU Athletic Director Jered Lyons. "This is an incredible milestone, not only for Erica but also for Washington Adventist University. Her innovative approach, commitment to excellence, and passion for graphic design and photography have set a new standard, and we are immensely proud of her achievements."
Calhoun concluded her third year leading Washington Adventist's athletic communications efforts. Her work has been featured on ESPN and USA Today, and she has been an official photographer at the 2024 USA Track & Field Olympic Trials.
CAC Commissioner Meg Schebler stated, "Erica has done an amazing job at elevating the media presence of the Washington Adventist University Athletics. Her creative design and engaging content are impressive, and these talents have created improved visibility for their university. I am thrilled the conference is recognizing Erica for her efforts by selecting her as the CAC's Sports Information Director of the Year."
Calhoun contributed to the CAC at the men's basketball NAIA national tournament and attended the 2023 CAC men's soccer tournament, the team's first postseason appearance.
