WAU Men’s Basketball Secures Nail-Biting Win Over Cheyney University
TAKOMA PARK, MD — The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team edged out Cheyney University in a thrilling 68-66 victory on Monday, January 13, at The Pitt. The game showcased intense competition and late-game heroics as the Shock held on to earn their second win of the season.
WAU's Chase Cook delivered a standout performance, leading the team with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Emanuel Hylton added key contributions, including a clutch three-pointer in the final moments of the game to give WAU the victory. The Shock established an early 37-29 first-half lead but faced a fierce comeback from Cheyney, who tied the score with 17 seconds to go in the game. Cheyney made the backend of a pair of free throws to gain the one-point advantage.
In a dramatic finish, WAU's Cook drove to the basket and hit Hylton in the corner in front of the Shock's bench, where he nailed the corner three to seal the 68-66 win. The victory marks a momentum boost for the Shock as they continue their campaign. They'll look to build on this hard-fought triumph in their upcoming games.
The Shock shot 32.9 percent (26-of-79) from the field, with five of its makes coming from long range. Cook led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 22 points, while Hylton followed with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Julian King (13), James Quinn (6), Jalen Anderson (5), Jaylin McNeil (5), and Felix McGhee (2), also found the scoring column. King led the team in rebounding, grabbing thirteen boards for the Shock solidifying another double-double. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.
The Shock will return home to host the annual WAU CAC Classic, opening Friday at 2 p.m. against Haskell Indian Nations on January 17 in Takoma Park, MD, at the Pitt.
