SPARTANBURG, SC – The Washington Adventist University men's basketball team delivered a commanding performance to defeat Spartanburg Methodist, 90-81, on Friday, January 24, at Bridges Arena to close the Spartanburg CAC Classic.

The Shock's offense was electric from the start, led by senior guards Jalen Anderson and Rande Harper, who both scored a team-high 23. Anderson's sharp shooting (3-of-4 from the three-point line) and ability to create opportunities fueled WAU's attack, as the team maintained a steady lead throughout the game.

Harper was dominant defensively, tallying six rebounds and two steals, including a perfect trip to the charity stripe that helped WAU maintain momentum. Chase Cooke added 20 points and three assists, showcasing his versatility with timely defensive stops and a clutch three-pointer.

WAU's defense also stood strong against a determined Spartanburg Methodist squad, limiting their top scorers in key moments and forcing 21 critical turnovers in the game. The Shock capitalized on their defensive efforts, turning steals into fast-break opportunities that sealed their victory.

"Good team effort and conference win against a well-coached Spartanburg Methodist team," said head coach Jerry McFarland. "I am proud of our guys' effort tonight."

The Shock shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field, with seven of its makes coming from long range. Anderson and Harper led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 23 points, while Cooke followed with 20 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Emanuel Hylton (8), Jaylin McNeil (7), Jayden Rowe-Perry (6), and Felix McGhee (3), also found the scoring column. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.

The victory marks an important step for the Shock as they continue to build momentum. WAU will look to carry this energy into the Fisher CAC Classic facing Spartanburg Methodist, Morris College, and Fisher College again on February 7-9 in Boston, MA.
