WAU Men’s Soccer Suffers Tough 9-0 Defeat to Shawnee State

Portsmouth, OH – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's soccer team faced another challenging road match against Shawnee State on September 3, enduring a 9-0 loss in Portsmouth, Ohio. The result marks a difficult outing for the Shock (0-2. 0-0) as they navigate a demanding early season schedule.

Shawnee State controlled the match from the opening whistle. The Bears scored early, netting their first goal within the first ten minutes. The hosts continued to push forward, capitalizing on their opportunities to add three more goals before the halftime break, giving them a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second half proved even more challenging for the Shock as Shawnee State continued their offensive momentum. Despite efforts from the Shock to regroup and tighten their defense, Shawnee State's relentless attack resulted in five more goals in the second half. The Bears' well-coordinated play and clinical finishing left WAU with few chances to counter.

Throughout the match, WAU's goalkeeper Gregorio Capponi made several commendable saves to limit the attacks, but the relentless offensive pressure from Shawnee State proved consistent.

While the result was not in the Shock's favor, WAU head coach Daniel Carroll emphasized the importance of learning from these early experiences as the team looks ahead to the rest of the season. WAU remains focused on its season goals and will return to training with renewed determination. The Shock will look to regroup and put this match behind them as they prepare for the next game of their seven-game road tour.

The Shock will return to action on Monday, September 9, facing off against Lancaster Bible College at Donald H. Funk Field at Willis & Martha Herr Stadium in Lancaster, PA.
