WAU Men’s Cross Country Competes at Delaware Invitational

Newark, Del. – The Washington Adventist University men's cross country team took on a deep and competitive field Friday at the Delaware Invitational, hosted at White Clay Creek State Park. The meet featured strong regional programs, including Wilmington (Del.), Delaware State, Delaware TC, and Goldey-Beacom.
 
Wilmington (Del.) secured the team title with 37 points, led by a balanced top-five that all finished inside the top 20. Delaware TC and Delaware State followed closely, finishing second and third with 54 and 56 points, respectively. WAU did not post a team score but gained valuable racing experience against a large field.
 

Individual Performances

  • Nehemiah Stein paced the Shock with a time of 38:34.1, holding steady through the middle miles of the 8k.
  • Ian Sanchez crossed next for WAU, finishing in 39:15.2, continuing his improvement from earlier races.
  • Zachary Aguy followed at 40:35.7, showing consistency as part of the scoring group.
  • Hurrich Engouen added depth with a 43:12.7 performance, battling through late-race hills.

 

The race was won by Delaware State's Marian Drazan, who broke the tape in 25:56.3, the only runner under 26 minutes. Wilmington's Julian Jones and Delaware TC's Evan Diefenbeck rounded out the top three.
For WAU, the Invitational served as a crucial benchmark against Division II and III opponents, providing the young squad with valuable competition experience.
 

Next Up

The Shock men will look to build on this performance as they continue their 2025 campaign under head coach Omoleye "Rike" Akande. The next test comes at the Virginia State Cross Country Challenge, where WAU aims to continue lowering times and closing pack gaps.
