COLE ACCEPTS COACHING POSITION AT WINSTON-SALEM STATE
Takoma Park, MD – After three seasons at the helm of the Washington Adventist women's basketball program, Annitra Cole has accepted a position as assistant women's basketball coach at Winston-Salem State University.
Cole was hired to take over a team that went 0-27 during the 2010-11 season, and in her first campaign as head coach the Lady Shock went 6-17 and defeated Post University, who represents the highly competitive NCAA Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
This past season Cole guided WAU to a 9-18 overall record, the most wins in 15 years for the women's basketball program. Her student-athletes during her tenure have received USCAA and ICAA All-American honors, and academic awards.
"I want to sincerely thank the student-athletes, the Director of Athletics Patrick Crarey, President Weymouth Spence, and the WAU community for their support and prayers," said Cole. "This has been an amazing opportunity for me professionally and personally with the friendships I have made over the last three years. I know that my time at WAU has prepared me to take on this new chapter in my life."
"I want to congratulate Coach Cole on her new position," said WAU Director of Athletics Patrick Crarey. "She has done a great job here not only as the women's basketball coach but also as the Compliance Coordinator, and the Sports Information Director. Her impact on the restructuring of the athletics department has never been seen at this institution. Her knowledge, professionalism and friendship will be missed. We love Coach Cole and she will forever be a part of Shock Nation."
