WAU Women’s Basketball Falls to CCBC Essex in Tough Road Matchup
BALTIMORE, MD — The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team faced a challenging opponent in CCBC Essex on Thursday, January 9, falling 105-65 in a high-energy game on the Knights' home court. Despite the scoreline, the Shock demonstrated moments of resilience and determination against one of the region's strongest teams.
WAU's Armani Ball led all scorers recording a double-double with 25 points and eleven rebounds, while Tye Queen contributed a double-double of her own with 12 points and 10 rebounds, keeping the Shock competitive through the first quarter. However, CCBC Essex's relentless pace and precision shooting proved difficult to contain as they pulled away in the second quarter, entering halftime with a commanding lead of 56-31.
The Knights continued to dominate in the second half, showcasing their depth and ability to capitalize on the Shock's 22 turnovers. While WAU fought valiantly, the deficit proved insurmountable. The Shock will regroup and focus on their next opportunity to bounce back as they progress through the season.
The Shock shot 34.8 percent (24-of-69) from the field, with two of its makes coming from long range. Along with Ball and Queen, Deryanis Colon Velez (13), Fowler (5), Melanie Aguilar (4), Isabela Lujan-Gonzales (4), and Sanaa Morrow (2) also found the scoring column. Seven Shock players saw time on the floor.
The Shock remain 6-7 on the season as the contest was an exhibition against a JUCO opponent. The Shock will prepare for their next matchup against Trinity Washington in Takoma Park, MD on Wednesday, January 15 at the Pitt.
