WAU Women's Basketball Dominates Trinity Washington University

Takoma Park, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday night, overwhelming Trinity Washington University 101-28 at The Pitt. This decisive victory marks one of the most dominant showings of the season for the Shock.

 

WAU wasted no time asserting control, opening the game with a relentless offensive attack and suffocating defense. The Shock's balanced scoring effort was led by Amani Ball, who tallied 21 points and three rebounds to fuel WAU's explosive offense. Contributions came from every corner of the roster, showcasing the team's depth and versatility. On the defensive end, WAU's pressure forced 39 turnovers, translating into easy fast-break points.

 

The Shock carried a sizable 56-14 lead into halftime and never looked back, continuing their offensive clinic in the second half. With crisp ball movement and pinpoint shooting, WAU reached the century mark late in the game, thrilling the home crowd.

 

"Everyone contributed,said head coach Jered Lyons. "We really appreciate the community coming out to support us. We are peaking at the right time."

 

The Shock shot 54.1 percent (46-of-85) from the field and forced the Trinity Washington into 39 turnovers. Ball led all scorers finishing with 21 points, three rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal, while Deryanis Colon Velez followed with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight steals, and three assists. Bethany Fowler contributed a near truple-double performance recording 18 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. Isabela Lujan-Gonzales also filled the stat sheet with 18 points, five steals, five assists, and two rebounds.

 

Tye Queen (10), Sanaa Morrow (6), Abby Bryant (5), Melanie Aguilar (2), and newcomer Katy Duarte (2) found the scoring column as well. Queen led the Shock in rebounds recording a double-double with ten rebounds. Nine players saw the floor in the victory.

 

The win boosts WAU's momentum as they gear up for the next phase of their season. The Shock will return home to host the annual WAU CAC Classic, opening Friday at noon against Haskell Indian Nations on January 17 in Takoma Park, MD, at the Pitt.
