WAU Women’s Basketball Dominates Fisher College at WAU CAC Classic
TAKOMA PARK, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance in their matchup against Fisher College, securing an 83-39 victory on Saturday, January 18, during the WAU CAC Classic at The Pitt. The win showcased the Shock's depth, defensive prowess, and offensive efficiency.
WAU set the tone early, establishing a double-digit lead and holding Fisher to only five points in the first quarter. The team's relentless defense forced numerous turnovers, converting them into fast-break opportunities and easy baskets. Offensively, the Shock spread the floor effectively, with multiple players contributing in double figures. Their precision shooting from beyond the arc and dominance in the paint overwhelmed Fisher College, allowing WAU to extend their lead throughout the game.
Freshman guard Abby Bryant spearheaded the attack with a team-high 18 points and eleven points recording her first career double-double. At the same time, forward Armani Ball contributed a double-double, controlling the boards with 13 rebounds and 16 points of her own. The Shock's bench made a significant contribution, contributing 43 of the Shock's points.
Isabela Lujan-Gonzales (16), Deryanis Colon Velez (11), Sanaa Morrow (7), Tye Queen (6), Melanie Aguilar (5), Bethany Fowler (2), and newcomer Irene Trillo (2) found the scoring column as well. Lujan-Gonzales led the Shock in steals recording six steals. Ten players saw the floor in the victory.
With this decisive win, the Shock improved their momentum heading into day three of the WAU CAC Classic. The Shock will face Florida National University on Sunday, January 19 in Takoma Park, at the Pitt at 2 p.m.
