WAU Women’s Basketball Outlasts Morris College in Spartanburg CAC Classic
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Washington Adventist University women's basketball team claimed a hard-fought 77-69 victory over Morris College on Friday, January 24, at Bridges Arena in the Spartanburg CAC Classic.
The Shock showcased their resilience and depth in a tightly contested game, with Isabela Lujan-Gonzales leading the charge. Lujan-Gonzales recorded a game-high 25 points, four rebounds, and four assists while adding three steals to anchor WAU's defense. Amani Ball contributed 15 points and six rebounds, orchestrating the offense with precision.
Morris College put up a strong fight, relying on a balanced scoring attack to keep the game close through three quarters. The game was tied 51-51 heading into the fourth. WAU turned up the offensive intensity going on a 13-3 run with four minutes left in the game. Timely three-pointers and clutch free throws by Lujan-Gonzales down the stretch sealed the win for the Shock.
The Shock shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and forced Morris College into 27 turnovers. Along with Lujan-Gonzales and Ball, Bethany Fowler (11), Deryanis Colon Velez (10), Melanie Aguilar (9), Tye Queen (3), Sanaa Morrow (2), and Abby Bryant (2) found the scoring column as well. Fowler spearheaded the defense leading the Shock in steals recording a career-high nine steals. Nine players saw the floor in the victory.
The victory improves WAU's record 10-8 (3-1), as they continue to build momentum in the CAC Classic. The Shock will return to action on Saturday as they face the host Spartanburg Methodist on January 25 at 6:30 p.m.
