WAU Women’s Volleyball Falls to Bowie State 3-0 in Home Match

Takoma Park, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's volleyball team faced a tough challenge on September 15, 2024, as they were swept 3-0 by NCAA Division I Bowie State University in their home match. Despite a strong start, the Shock was unable to overcome Bowie State's depth, falling in three straight sets.

WAU came out strong in the first set, establishing a sizable lead with aggressive serves and a solid defensive effort. The Bulldogs struggled to find their offensive rhythm early, but quickly turned the tables. Bowie State closed the Shock's five-point lead and went on a 5-0 run, winning the first set 26-24.

The second set was just as competitive, with WAU showing signs of consistency. A balanced Shock group delivered a series of kills that kept WAU within striking distance. However, Bowie State's resilience and strong front-row defense helped them pull away late in the set, claiming a 25-17 victory to go up 2-0.

The third set saw Bowie State come out with renewed energy, pushing the Bulldogs to a commanding 20-3 lead. Ariyanna Gross provided standout serving late in the set. However, Bowie State's consistent play proved too much for WAU to overcome, as they closed out the match with a 25-8 win to complete the 3-0 sweep.

For WAU, Ariyanna Gross led the team with eight kills and three aces, while Candace Kapualani Cabansag contributed five digs, two kills, and three blocks. Lynell White was a force at the net, recording two blocks, one kill, five assists, and three aces, but it wasn't enough to slow down Bowie State's attack.

With the loss, WAU moves to 2-2 on the season. The Shock will look to bounce back in their next match as they take on Frederick Community College, tomorrow, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Frederick, MD. WAU remains determined to regroup and find success in their upcoming games.
