WAU Women’s Volleyball Falls to Monroe College 3-0
Takoma Park, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's volleyball team faced a tough opponent in Monroe College, falling 3-0 in a mid-day match on Friday, October 4, 2024. Despite their efforts, the Shock struggled to match Monroe's pace, losing in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-19.
Monroe College set the tone early in the first set, building a quick lead that WAU could not close. Solid defensive plays and a few key blocks from Chanel Schmidt and Samiah Gross helped the Shock gain some momentum, but Monroe's powerful attacks and serves proved too much, leading to a 25-14 win for the Mustangs.
In the second set, WAU showed resilience, with Ariyanna Gross contributing several strong kills and Jordyn Stafford keeping the offense flowing. However, Monroe maintained control of the match, capitalizing on errors and pushed the late lead, winning the second set 25-21.
The third set followed a similar pattern, as WAU worked hard to stay in the game, but Monroe's relentless attack kept them in command. Despite some impressive digs and defensive efforts from Candace Kapualani Cabansag, the Shock fell 25-19, giving Monroe a decisive 3-0 victory.
With this loss, WAU's record falls to 5-7, 0-0. The Shock will aim to regroup and bounce back in their next match, on the road, against Chesapeake College on Tuesday, October 8.
