Shock Drop on the Road: WAU Volleyball Falls to Penn State Mont Alto
Mont Alto, Pa. – Washington Adventist University volleyball fell on the road Tuesday night, dropping a 3–0 decision to Penn State Mont Alto inside the PSU Multipurpose Activities Center. The Lady Shock fought hard but were unable to slow down Mont Alto's consistent offensive rhythm, falling by set scores of 25–17, 25–10, and 25–7.
WAU came out with energy in the opening frame, as Samiah Gross and Ariyanna Gross connected early on a pair of kills to trim the margin to 5–4. Later, Gross added another pair of kills from Lynell White's assists to keep the Shock within striking distance, pulling within 12–15. Despite the offensive push, Mont Alto pulled away late, closing the set 25–17.
Mont Alto controlled the second set from the first serve, as a strong service run pushed the Nittany Lions out to a 10–0 lead. WAU broke through with kills from Zabria Fakeye, Jade Rios, and Lynell White, while Ariyanna Gross added a service ace to give the Shock a spark. But Penn State's balanced attack proved too much, taking the second set 25–10.
Looking to extend the match, WAU leaned again on its front line with Gross, Fakeye, and Rios working to generate points. Gross opened with a kill to give WAU its only lead of the frame, 1–0, but Mont Alto responded quickly. Candace Kapualani Cabansag and Fakeye each registered key swings in the middle of the set, but Mont Alto closed on a dominant run to finish the match with a 25–7 set win.
