WAU Women’s Cross Country Competes at Shenandoah Twilight Open

Winchester, Va. – Washington Adventist University Women's Cross Country continued its 2025 season on Friday evening at the Shenandoah Twilight Open, toeing the line against a competitive regional field highlighted by Frostburg State, Dickinson, VMI, and host Shenandoah. Frostburg State secured the team title with 46 points, while Dickinson (56), VMI (58), and Shenandoah (60) rounded out a tightly packed top four.

For WAU, sophomore Jordyn Schaeffer led the way, clocking 28:23.0 to finish 45th overall. She was supported by several teammates — including Mychel Baron, Bianca Bedoya, Saniya Hymes, and Ashley Ibanez — who gained valuable race experience as the Shock continue to build depth in just their second outing of the fall.

Individually, Dickinson's Liza Barbash took the women's 5K crown in 18:25.7, while VMI's Reagan Gilman (18:48.2) and Jillian Sisk (19:02.7) finished close behind.

Head Coach Omoleye "Rike" Akande noted the importance of these early meets in preparing her squad for the heart of the season:

"Every race is an opportunity to learn, to gain confidence, and to grow as a team. Today, we started to see the details of practice show up in today's meet"
The Shock will return to action at the Delaware Invitational on Friday, September 19, looking to continue strengthening their pack time and climbing the team standings.
