WAU Women’s Cross Country Competes at Delaware Invitational
Newark, Del. – The Washington Adventist University women's cross country team continued its fall campaign on Friday at the Delaware Invitational, hosted at White Clay Creek State Park. Against a deep field that featured NCAA Division I programs Towson and Delaware, the Shock showed resilience and determination across the 5k course.
Towson claimed the team title with 23 points, edging host Delaware (32 points). Delaware TC, Delaware State, and Wilmington rounded out the top five team finishes. WAU did not post a team score but gained valuable experience competing against a strong regional field.
Individual Highlights
- Jordyn Schaeffer led the Shock effort, clocking a 27:34.3 to place 59th overall.
- Mychel Baron crossed in 31:22.9, showing steady pacing in her collegiate debut.
- Bianca Bedoya followed with a 33:54.7, demonstrating grit in the second half of the race.
- Saniya Hymes rounded out WAU's lineup with a 34:33.0, building consistency as she continues her season.
Delaware's Marie-Theres Gruber won the individual crown in 17:22.7, setting the tone for a competitive field that saw multiple runners break the 20-minute barrier. For WAU, the meet provided another opportunity to test against higher-level competition and gain confidence heading into the midseason stretch.

The Shock women will return to action at the Virginia State Cross Country Challenge, looking to continue lowering times and building team depth under head coach Omoleye "Rike" Akande.
