WAU Men's Basketball Dominates Penn State Beaver in Bobcat Kickoff Classic

BUFFALO, NY - In a thrilling display of dominance, the Washington Adventist Men's Basketball team secured their second victory of the season with a resounding 90-51 win over Penn State Beaver in the Bobcat Kickoff Classic on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

From the opening tip, WAU (2-1) displayed their intent to control the game. The team's cohesive play and relentless defensive pressure set the tone for an unforgettable performance. The Shock's stifling defense proved too much for Penn State Beaver (0-1) to handle, as they struggled to find their footing throughout the entire contest.

Leading the way for WAU was their dynamic guard duo of Tunde Scrivner and Michael Brown. Scrivner showcased his scoring prowess, leading all scorers with a stunning 32 points. His ability to effortlessly navigate through the defense and consistently find the bottom of the net proved to be a nightmare for the opposition. At the same time, Brown came in, recording 13 points while displaying a perfect shooting performance from behind the arc.

However, it wasn't just the Shock's backcourt that excelled in this lopsided victory. The team's frontcourt was equally impressive, with a dominant display of rebounding and shot-blocking. Led by power forward Mohamed Bundu and Center Xzavaier Hawkins, who contributed nine rebounds and two blocks, WAU controlled the boards and limited Penn State Beaver second-chance opportunities to eight points. Bundu's imposing presence in the paint resulted in a game-high nine rebounds, with four being offensive rebounds, instilling fear in the hearts of his opponents and laying the foundation for the Shock's defensive dominance.

Despite the commanding victory, there were areas that Washington Adventist Men's Basketball will undoubtedly look to improve upon moving forward. The team committed 16 turnovers, which will require attention during practice sessions to maintain their positive momentum. Nevertheless, the depth and talent of this squad looked promising, with all bench players contributing to the scoring.

The Shock finished with four players in double figures. Scrivner led all scorers, finishing with 32 points and five rebounds; Brown finished with 13 points and four rebounds; Armon Williams finished with 11 points, four assists, and four steals, and James Lee finished with 10 points. Bundu finished with 6 points and led the game with nine rebounds and assists.
