WAU Earns #3 Seed in the 2024 CAC Men's Basketball Tournament
LAWRENCE, KS - The three-seeded WAU men's basketball team (15-9, 4-2) begins its 2024 CAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament journey on Friday, March 1, as it takes on sixth-seeded Fisher College (17-9, 3-3) in the quarter-finals. Tip-off between the Shock and the Falcons are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST (2:00 p.m. EST) at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas.
"March Madness at its best," said head coach William McFarland. "Our conference tournament is special for many reasons, but the fact you can play for a chance to compete in the national tournament and continue to play is the best. We have had our ups and downs this season, but the guys have stuck together and committed. I am really proud of this group of young men."
The 2024 CAC men's basketball championship tournament will be the third year the Shock will be in postseason play under Coach McFarland's leadership. The Shock closed out the regular season by winning its last three games. Tunde Scrivner leads WAU at 14.9 points per game, while Isaiah Anderson scores 14.6 points per contest. Mohamed Bundu is averaging 11.6 points and six rebounds per game this season. Senior Derrick Hopkins received the final CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the 2023-24 season. The forward capped off his career in style by scoring 30 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 113-109 victory against Clinton College (South Carolina) last Saturday.
Friday's winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, March 2, with the championship game following Sunday, March 3, at 4:00 p.m. CST (5:00 p.m. EST). The finalists will earn automatic bids to represent the CAC at the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
