TAKOMA PARK, MD: The WAU men's soccer team (2-0, 0-0) emerged victorious in a nail-biting encounter on August 24, 2023, with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Emory & Henry College. The match showcased the team's determination, skill, and resilience as they overcame a formidable opponent to secure a memorable victory.

Match Summary

Both teams displayed their intent to dominate the game from the opening whistle. Emory & Henry College started strongly, applying pressure on the Shock's defense and creating several scoring opportunities. However, the Washington Adventist goalkeeper, Gregorio Capponi, showcased his exceptional shot-stopping abilities, denying the Wasp's early attempts.

As the first half progressed, the Wasps began to find their rhythm and assert their presence on the field. Their midfielders orchestrated swift counter-attacks, creating chances for their forwards to capitalize on. In the 22nd minute, Emory & Henry's striker broke the deadlock with an unassisted goal, giving his team the 1-0 lead at the half.

The second half witnessed an intensified display of skill and determination from both sides. WAU's defense tightened its ranks, making it difficult for Emory & Henry College to penetrate. Simultaneously, the Shock's midfielders showcased their creativity and vision, consistently supplying their forwards with scoring opportunities.

In the 64th minute, the Shock's forward, Aidan Hidassy, expertly guided the ball into the net, giving WAU its first goal of the night. The goal injected renewed energy into the team, pushing them further.

The Wasps, however, refused to back down and fought back. In the 80th minute, they took the lead again, bringing the scoreline to 2-1 with under ten minutes left in the match.

The Shock responded swiftly, determined to level the playing field. Their relentless attacking pressure paid off in the 82nd minute when forward Aguer Dau found the back of the net with an assist from Stanley Pagett, equalizing the scoreline at 2-2. The night ended with a successful penalty kick by Riku Kawano for the Shock in the 85th minute, giving WAU the 3-2 victory over the Wasp.
