Washington Adventist University Men’s Soccer Defeats University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown 3-2 in Rescheduled Match at Windber Stadium

Windber, PA – Washington Adventist University's men's soccer team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in a rescheduled match at Windber Stadium. Originally set to take place the night before in Johnstown, PA, the game was moved and rescheduled due to heavy rain and a flooded field.

WAU came out strong despite the last-minute venue change, taking control of the match early on. The Shock struck first in the 25th minute when Marcos Hernandez Molina finished a well-placed shot, giving WAU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Pittsburgh-Johnstown responded quickly, shifting the momentum and tying the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute. The Mountain Cats continued to press and took the lead in the 52nd minute with a close-range finish, advancing the score to 2-1.

Undeterred, the Shock kept pushing forward, and their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when the Shock capitalized on a defensive error to score the equalizing goal. WAU regained the final lead in the 76th minute when Hernandez Molina found the back of the net for the second time with a powerful strike assisted by Alessandro Perolgolio, securing a 3-2 victory for the Shock.

"This was a great team effort," said WAU head coach Daniel Carroll. "We faced a lot of adversity with the weather and venue changes, but the guys stayed focused and got the job done."

With the win, WAU improves their record to 1-2-1 and will look to carry this momentum into their next match against Continental Athletic Conference mate, Fisher College, on Sunday, September 29, in Boston, MA.
