Men’s Soccer Battles to 1–1 Draw at Notre Dame of Maryland in Season Opener

Baltimore, MD – Washington Adventist University men's soccer opened its 2025 campaign on the road with a gritty performance, earning a 1–1 draw against Notre Dame of Maryland University at the Eagles Soccer Complex.

The Shock were tested early, as NDMU pressed forward with multiple shots in the opening minutes. Goalkeeper Michael Delcid stood tall, collecting three saves in the first 15 minutes to keep the hosts scoreless. WAU generated chances of its own, with Victor Perez firing wide twice in the opening half, but neither side could break through before halftime.

WAU showed composure under pressure as the defense, anchored by Samuel Damise and Dominic Marquez, limited Notre Dame's looks at goal despite conceding several corners. At the break, the match remained scoreless, highlighted by Delcid's four first-half saves.

The intensity picked up in the second half. Notre Dame finally capitalized in the 64th minute when Theo Miras converted a penalty kick, giving the Gators a 1–0 advantage.

The Shock answered back with resilience. After building pressure with three quick shots between the 68th and 70th minutes, WAU equalized in the 78th minute when a team effort pushed the ball past the NDMU keeper to level the match at 1–1.

WAU nearly pulled ahead in the final 10 minutes as Bryan Sanchez Rodriguez and Daniel Hirsch both saw late shots narrowly miss over the crossbar. Delcid added another crucial save in the 82nd minute to preserve the result.

  • Michael Delcid had 5 saves in goal, including multiple early stops that kept WAU in the match.
  • Victor Perez had a team-high 4 shots, consistently testing the NDMU defense.
