Shock Battle Hard in Road Test at Norfolk State

Norfolk, Va. — The Washington Adventist University men's basketball team faced off against NCAA Division I opponent Norfolk State on Monday night, falling 98–76 in a competitive and high-tempo matchup. Despite the result, the Shock displayed grit and balance, pushing the Spartans early before the host team pulled away late in the first half.

The Shock opened strong with an early steal from Anthony Perry, leading to a jumper from Chase Cook that tied the game 2–2. Joey Brown IV kept WAU in rhythm with rebounds and free throws, while Isaiah Stein and Seth Wright provided key first-half sparks, Wright drilling a three-pointer to trim the deficit to 16–9.

WAU's energy continued midway through the period as Felix McGhee hit back-to-back threes and Derrick Jones Jr. added one of his own to bring the score to 29–34. Cook and Julian King combined for efficient scoring stretches, including Cook's strong finish through contact for a three-point play. By halftime, the Shock trailed 45–33 but had forced multiple turnovers and shown flashes of cohesive offense against a Division I defense.

In the second half, Cook led a WAU surge, hitting mid-range jumpers and free throws to keep momentum alive. Jones found his rhythm, connecting on jump shots and attacking the lane, while Perry buried a three to close the gap to 50–68. Brown's playmaking led to an assist for a King layup and a deep three of his own, keeping the Shock within reach midway through the half.

Norfolk State's depth eventually proved the difference, as the Spartans used a series of transition baskets to seal the game late. Still, WAU saw productive minutes from Jayden Rowe-Perry, James Quinn, and Lance Porter who each contributed from the free-throw line and defensive end down the stretch.
